Horsham Athletes claim silver at Sussex Cross Country Championships

Sussex Cross Country Championship

Horsham Blue Star Harriers’ under-20 men’s team led the way at the Sussex Cross Championships, taking silver behind Hastings at Stanmer Park.

Adrian Fautly was the stand-out Horsham performer over the 8km course, with a seventh place finish in a time of 30mins,15secs, while Francis Scarr (tenth, 31m,58s), Alex Best (13th, 33m,38s) and Sam Taylor (15th, 34m,36s) completed the team as they scored 30 points.

Johanna Spannagl had her first outing for more than a year, as the clocked 27m,57s to finish eighth and take the under-20 silver in the combined Senior Women and U20s race over 6.4km. Cammi Cowan also had a good run to finish in 13th place (29m,14s) and with Rosie Inman 25th (30m,20s) and Elspeth Turner 29th (30m,39s), the team finished in fourth place behind Hailsham on countback after both scored 75points,

Bronwen Thomas was the first under-13 girls finisher, clocking 12m,50s over the 3km course for seventh place, while Neave Scott was 15th (13m44s) and Romy van der Veen 17th in 13m,51s.

Under-15 Caroline Wirth was 11th in an excellent 10m,31s, ahead of Katie Perrin (17th) and Megan Allerton (20th) as thew Blue Star team recorded 48 points for another fourth place finish, as did the under-17 team of Will Thomas, Reuben Selby and Euan Ramage, who amassed 46 points.

In the under-13s boys race over 3km, Joshua Barnett out-paced club-mates Oliver Perron and Josh Eales as they took 21st, 22nd and 23rd respectively, other finishers were Jamie Hughes, Jacob Cann, Louis Bateman, Chris Dunstan and Jared Allerton.

Marcus Ramage was eight in the under-15 boys race, in his time of 17m,10s, Euan Thomas was 24th and Luke Triccas 26th. And Nicole Allen took tenth and Maisie Boast 15th in the under-17 women’s race.
