Leading scorer John Burroughs struck four goals as Horsham Men’s hockey firsts recorded a 6-0 win at Brighton & Hove II in their first competitive game after the Christmas break.
Dominic Male and Duncan Howarth were also on target, although skipper Howarth was left wanting more from his league leaders.
Howarth said: “On paper it looks a good result, but in reality it’s nowhere near the level we want to be playing ahead of this week’s game against Old Bordenians.
“Weather permitting, we expect a tough and close encounter when we host them at BBH on Saturday.”
Burroughs’ four-goal haul means he now has 17 for the campaign and the victory maintained Horsham’s five-point lead at the top of the Kent/Sussex 1 league.
In a friendly away at Old Cranleighans last weekend Horsham ran out 4-3 winners with goals from Male (two), Jack Dean and Freddie Campbell.
