Bob Marksman and Brett Norris showed no signs of ill-effects from the Mannings Heath Dinner Cup celebrations with a hard fought battle for the title.

Despite being restricted to three quarters of their handicaps, both men returned 37 points with seven-handicap Marksman just claiming the trophy on countback from his eleven handicap rival to earn a handsome dividend for all those who had ‘bought’ him atthe pre-dinner auction.

Earlier in the week the winners of the year’s ladies stableford competitions contested the St Andrews Cup, Gilly Ewers carding four birdies in a superb 41 point round to beat nearest challenger Sandra Roberts by five and lower her handicap to 11.

In the concurrent stableford event Sam Barnes headed the Silver Division with 33 points, one better than Rita Searles. Margaret Edwards, 31, and Viv Reed, 30, posted the best Bronze returns.
