Steyning AC’s Jimmy Ball clocked 25min 30.2secs to finish second behind Medway’s Cameron Curbishley in the annual Alf Palmer 5km walk at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre.

Kent-based Curbishley, still in the under-17 age group, finished a clear winner in 23mins 32.2secs.

Luc Legon and Heather Butcher from Cambridge Harriers, who are also under-17s, finished third and fourth respectively although they were both credited with 26mins 16.4secs before Trevor Jones, another Steyning Vet, finished in 26mins 39.6secs for fifth place.
