SQUASH ace Oli Pett is beginning to make strides towards the very top of the sport following his first professional tournament win.
Oli, who trains and coaches at Bluecoat Health and Fitness at Christ’s Hospital, battled through all the qualifying rounds and despatched the top seed on his way to a maiden PSA tour victory at the Brit Insurance Metrosquash Windy City Open at the University Club of Chicago. Oli overcame Czech number one Jan Koukal in the final.
“It was a but of a shock result, but to others not to me,” he said. “I have been putting in a ridiculous amount of hard work and I have had some good results before this.
“It’s what I have put all my work in for and it all came together.
“There was so much pressure though. Nobody really expected me to win, but it was pressure I had put on myself after all the injuries and setbacks I have had.
“I didn’t really relax for a second. I put someone in the top 30 in the world out in the first round and that should have got me thinking I’m playing well enough to win it.”
