Slinfold’s all-conquering pair Karen Ashcroft and Cathy Downey have reached Daily Mail foursomes golf final for the second successive year.
They needed a sudden death play-off to secure their place at the finals at the Forest of Arden, a former English open venue - beating Windernesse GC on the first extra hole in the seventh round.
The win ensures Downey and Ashcroft are the only finalists from 2011 to make this year’s showcase event, but they had to work for it.
Playing against the Sevenoaks-based host club’s Christine Smith and Anna Gunter, Slinfold’s pair had to concede five shots, and after bad start found thesmelves two down after the first two holes.
They arrested the slump though, and by the 11th had pulled all sqaure.
Downey and Ashcroft took the 17th to go up, a lead they were unable to hold on to on the final green - so it went to a play-off.
And they capitalised on a poor Wildernesse drive to win the hole and seal their place int he last 18.
Last year, Slinfold suffered disappointment when they had to settle for third place after a washout in the final.
Ashcroft said: “I cannot believe it, we have done it again, my heart won’t take much more!”
