Schools net best-ever finish with South East

Two Horsham school girls represented the South East under-15s at the England Basketball regional tournament last month.

Daniela Lozzi, from Farlington School, captained the side, alongside team-mate India Belfield, who attends Millais, at the Nottingham Wildcats Arena.

Daniela and India also play in the Sussex League, as part of the local club Horsham Hawks and in the National League for Sevenoaks Suns (Daniela) and Sussex Thunder (India).

Daniela has been selected for England under-15s for the past two seasons, while India was in the successful Millais under-14 team.

Hawks coaches Dom Evans and Gianni Lozzi were the South East’s assistant coach and team manager.

The South East team finished second place out of ten teams, which was the best result ever for any South East team since the regional tournaments started in 2006 .

After finishing first in their pool, they won the semi-final against East and lost only the final against North West .

With the best five on court, South East won most of the quarters they played and all the girls competed at high intensity, giving their best .

The girls experienced playing basketball at the highest level in England for their age group, and will continue to develop their basketball skill through the Regional Performance Centre.
