Southwater golfer Paula Carver set a new course record on her way to winning the Worthing Golf Club Ladies Championship.
Carver set the new best by shooting 70 in the second round of the competition, to add to her 74 morning round beating the previous best she jointly held with Karen Sykes, dating back to 1987.
Set the previous mark of 71, before it was equalled by Paula in October 1996 while representing West Chiltington in a Sussex Golf event at Worthing.
She said: “I was chuffed just to win the club championship but to set a new course record was just thrilling. I knew on the 17th I was quite close to it and had to make a 5 footer to keep it going, that’s pressure! Luckily my playing partner Liz Symes didn’t have a clue otherwise she would have been a nervous wreck.”
Paula, a former Sussex champion who plays for the county team and has a handicap of 1 (0.7), also won the nett prize (72 and 68) to be awarded the Tina Clarke Trophy.
