Horsham’s London 2012 hopeful Mark Hawkins has described carrying the Olympic Flame as ‘spine-tingling’
Mark was due to carry the Torch through Crawley on July 17, but if selected for the Great Britain Handball squad, he would have been in a pre-games training camp. So, when a chance presented itself to carry the Torch in Tynemouth yesterday, he jumped at the chance.
“I had almost written off my chances of doing it really,” Mark, from Trefoil Close, commented. “But a last minute chance came up through my sponsors, and I was so lucky.
“It is such a surreal and spine tingling experience, the support you get from the public is breath-taking.”
Mark will discover whether he has been picked for the Great Britain squad on July 3.
