Swimmer Meghan Stevens has been named the fastest nine-year-old in Sussex.
The Itchingfield youngster, a member of the Mid Sussex Marlins Swimming Club, clocked up a total of 1,019 points across several events to win in the Sussex Championships earlier in the year, and was presented with a gold plate to mark the feat last month.
She won gold medals in the 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley (IM) and 100m IM, and also collected silver in the 50m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke plus bronzes in the 50m breaststroke, and 200m breaststroke - every race the Shelley Primary School pupil competed in resulted in a personal best time, in what was her first Sussex Championships, held at Crawley’s 50m pool.
Her feat was recognised at the Sussex developmental day at Christ’s Hospital School where the top eight of each age group train with coaches from various clubs across Sussex, where she was presented the plate.
Meghan also trains three times a week with the County.
