Martlets take flight to retain County knockout cup

THE MARTLETS Short Mat Bowls Club crowned their season by retaining the West Sussex County Knockout Cup.

Played at Westergate’s 6 Villages Sports Centre, the Billingshurst club beat Horley in the semi final, while Chanctonbury Foxes eased past Ashington to set up the final between the County’s two top clubs.

Jane Eyre, Malcolm Rollings (capt), Kyle McGowan and Jack Rollings (The Martlets) enjoyed an incredibly tight game against Chanctonbury’s Carol Hawkins,Pat Garrett, Jim Noton and Steve Payne that resulted in a 19-14 victory for The Martlets’ four.

And the Martlets rink of Barrie Fitch, Chris Blackman,Chris Rolph and Marc Lancaster raced to a 30-9 victory over Neil Jackson, Adam Homewood, Eric Stewart and Keith Hawkins to collect the trophy, which was presented by County chairman, Peter Winter.
