RISING young badminton star David King is celebrating a superb week of success on the national and international stage.
Last weekend, Horsham Arun Performance Centre member David collected an impressive medal haul at the under-15 National Finals, where he won the boys doubles, was runner up in the singles, and lost in the semi-finals, collecting a bronze medal. Teammate Ditlev Jaeger-holm won bronze in all three events, and Sean Richardson won silver in the boys doubles.
And seven days previously, David helped the England international squad to Silver in the 8 Nations team tournament in Berlin.
In the group stage they played Belgium and Switzerland, gaining easy 8-1 wins in a mix of singles, doubles and mixed games.
However, they had a narrow victory over Sweden just beating them 5-4. This took them into the final against a very strong Denmark team, with the majority of top seeds. England fought hard, with a number of close, nailbiting games, however, in the end Denmark came out victors with a 7-2 win.
Individually, David lost out to Germany’s number 1, the third seed, in the last 16 of the singles in two close games. He and his partner Oliver Thompson had a fantastic tournament, eventually losing in the quarters to the number one seeds and eventual winners.
