Horsham Joggers home fixture in the West Sussex Fun Run League went off with a bang on Sunday with the first-ever Gunpowder Trot.

The maiden running of the event was over a new course and also the final race of the league season.

With bonfires still smouldering from celebrations the night before, the brand-new course took place over the Denne Hill and Chesworth Farm areas on a four-and-a-half mile cross-country course.

There was a fantastic turnout of 355 runners and the home team rounded off the season with a creditable sixth place out of the 18 teams.

It was a fine achievement as so many Joggers were volunteering to help the run go off without a hitch.

The race winner was Worthing Harrier Martin Footman, who finished in 25min 57sec.

That was ahead of second-placed Lewis Sida in 26-38 and Tom Payne a further two seconds back. The first female was Emma Macready who completed the course in 28-07.

Matt Mason lead Joggers home in 13th place overall in 28-41.

He was followed by Alex Evans in 29-30 and John Willcox in 31-23. The first Joggers’ female was Sam Lloyd-Smith in 34-24.

Other times: Lin Whiting 35-42, Steve Wilson 36-14, Beck Howard 36-27, Paul Thornton 38-05, Derek Buckman 38-20, Jo Hopkins 39-51, Tom Ikin 39-58, Dave Dawson 40-19, John Booker 41-00, Fiona Dalrymple Hay 42-24, Dawn Filson 43-28, Vikki Stevens 43-30, Jamie Carter 44-28, Fiona Clifton 45-46, Jade Wilkinson 45-48, Carol Brown 53-19, Hannah Munden 68-43.

Joggers’ David Dawson and Fiona Clifton were two of 26 people to complete all 17 races of the season.
