Saturday was ‘graduation day’ for members of the Horsham Joggers Learn to Run group.
The novice runners tackled the Tilgate 5k Parkrun in Crawley as the culmination of ten weeks of training, which has taken them from little or no running experience to their first race.
They were joined in the race by some more experienced members of the club who were led home by Pete O’Connell, whose 18 minutes, 25 seconds was good enough for third place overall. It’s hoped the graduates will now remain part of the club.
Elsewhere, the Joggers were confirmed as fourth place finishers in the Sussex Grand Prix series. Steyning AC were 21st and Christ’s Hospital-based Mel’s Milers 22nd.
On the international front, Julia Johnson achieved a superb Personal Best 4h 4m 46s in the Florence Marathon.
