HORNETS boss Justin Luchford says he would happily trade cup exits this week for Ryman Premier Division survival.

Tonight, Horsham embark on a series of three cup ties with their trip to Folkestone in the Ryman League Cup, with Saturday’s FA Trophy visit to Southern League Chesham United and Tuesday’s Sussex Senior Cup clash against Horsham YMCA still to come.

And Luchford admits three cup defeats would mean little to him if his side avoided relegation at the end of the season.

He said: “I know it (Sussex Senior Cup) is important to fans, but at the moment the sole focus is the league.

“We would like to win Saturday’s tie because of the money but we are up against a top three side in a similar division to ours.

“If we lose on Tuesday it’s not going to wreck our season. “If we lose and then go on to beat Hastings a few days later I won’t care too much.

“Cup competitions are great, but we have to focus on the league. If we win the Sussex Senior Cup and go down it will not be a successful season. If we stay up and get knocked out, it will be.”
