Daniela Lozzi and Abigail Reeves have helped the South East Under-13s girls team to a best ever finish in the England Basketball U13 Regional Tournament in Lilleshall.
Representing the team comprised of players from Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Daniela, from Farlington School, and Abigail, from Millais School, helped the South East team to a fourth place finish - their best since the tournament began in 2006.
After finish second in their pool they lost in semifinal against eventual tournament winners the North West and again in the third place play-off against the East region.
Coach Gianni Lozzi said: “The result is extraordinary because due to a change of head coach just two weeks before the Tournament the team had to be re-organised and did not play any warm-up matches before Lilleshall .
“Therefore the team’s real first ever match was their first game at the U13 Girls tournament.”
Gianni and fellow South East coach Richard Surrey focused the team on flexible full court play , and when the team were at their strongest, came out on top in many of the quarters they played.
Gianni added: “The girls experienced a great weekend of playing basketball at the highest level in England for their age group, and they will continue to develop their basketball skills through the RPC (Regional Performance Centre).”
