Horsham athletes take cross country bronze

The senior and under-17 womens teams were the pick of the Horsham Blue Star Harriers teams at the Sussex Cross Country Relay Championships at Goodwood, both winning bronze.

Cammi Cowan led-off the Senior team with a time of 15minutes 14seconds for the 4km lap - she handed over to Rebecca Adams, whose time of 16m02s moved the team into second place, handing on to Wendy Spannagl, whose time of 16m29s not only saw the team home in third place but was good enough to win the fastest lap prize for an Over 45.

In the under-17s, Tabby Sherring was first up with a time of 20 34s, handing on to Maisie Boast and the Nicole Allen who ran 16m 57s.

The Senior Men’s team of Jason Wooldridge (14m04s), Ryan Bowyer (14m51s), Adrian Fautly (13m50s) and Sam Taylor (15m19s) saw them finish in eighth place.

In the under-17 Men’s event, also over 4km, Ben Collier brought the team home in sixth place running an excellent time of 13m11s, with Reuben Selby (14m39s) and Will Thomas (14m24s) running the first two legs respectively.

The Under 15 races, run over 2.8km saw the Girls team finish in sixth. The team was led off by Erin Bateman, who ran 12m05s. She handed on to Rebecca Williams (12m10s), with Megan Allerton running the fastest of the three with a time of 11m38s. The ‘B’ team took ninth place with Rebecca Farrow running 12m21s, Georgia Campbell 13m40s and Katie Perrin 12m26s.

The Under 15 Boys team also finished in ninth with Tom Mackman leading the team off in 10m29s, then Luke Triccas ran 11m17s, with Jack Milnthorpe bringing the team home with a run of 10m46s. Joe West (11m53s) and Euan Thomas (10m44s) ran in the ‘B’ team. In the under-13s, newcomer Neave Scott showed promise with a time 11m41s, and in the Boys race Jamie Hughes (11m21s) and Connor Dearden (10m42s) also ran well.
