Hockey: Horsham target league win

Horsham Hockey Club’s men’s first XI ‘expect’ to win the Kent/Sussex Regional Division of the South Hockey League.

Their league campaign gets underway next Saturday, with new coach Dominick Hale and skipper Duncan Howarth leading the side this year. And they want to go one better than last year, when Horsham missed out on promotion through the play-offs.

After Horsham lost their Sussex Cup first round clash 4-3 to Lewes last week, Howarth said: “I’m honoured to be captain, it’s my first time of captaining a first team and with the team coming second in the last two years I know there is an expectation to go one better and finish top.

“I’ve taken over from JB (John Burroughs) who is staying on as a player so his experience and leadership will be vital.”
