HORSHAM Hockey Club have their first outdoor trophy of the season safely secured, after the girls development team took the Sussex title.
The team - made up of girls between 11 and 15, along with up to three adults - secured the Sussex title with two games to go, despite having played most of the season without any adults, and never using more than one.
The team’s success was built on an incredible defensive record. The girls only conceeded one goal in their first 14 matches, including a run of ten straight wins without conceeding at all.
The girls have responded well this year to having a coach for the first time. Ex-men’s first team captain, Nick Kimberley, took on the role at the start of the year, and along with expert coaching sessions from Horsham ladies first team legend Fran Malam, this has proved the right recipe for success.
The girls have not only won, they have done it with a little style, great camaraderie and exemplory behaviour.
In addition, many of the girls have already been selected to represent Sussex and hopefully some will progress further. They are a real credit to Horsham Hockey Club, and will move on to be successful lady players.
Next season Horsham will move forwards with the same strategy for the girls and hopefully two development sides for the similarly successful boys. If you are interested in your children getting involved in this thriving and fun club, contact Nick at firstname.lastname@example.org
