Horsham Hawks under-16s recorded back to back wins in their second league game of the season at home to Worthing D&D Dazzlers.
Following a three-week break since their previous match, Hawks showed no sign of rustiness with a sublime opening spell of basketball featuring flowing passing initiated by point guard Josh Raby.
There was intelligent decision making and excellent execution particularly from shooting guard Jamie Miller who contributed eight of their first 14 points.
Hawks tough defence stifled Dazzlers limiting them to a meagre four points in the first five minutes allowing Hawks to spin the bench early on with Louis Dishington and George Makin adding scores before the end of the first period.
The visitors tried a variety of defences to limit Hawks attacking prowess but Morgan Hamilton coolly converted under the boards at the beginning of the second quarter to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
James Maclean then hit a purple patch midway through the period scoring four out of five buckets before Miller again converted to close the half with Hawks up 32-19.
Quarter three was Hawks’ highest scoring spell of the game; amassing 21 points with Miller, Dishington and Maclean continuing their effective work, while power forward Kieran Lee found space to drive inside on a number of occasions.
Ollie Hut showed his rebounding athleticism late in the quarter with an outstanding take and put back quickly followed by a nice mid-range shot to extend Hawks lead to 53-32 going into the final period.
Dazzlers put on a spirited Halloween fightback in the final period as Hawks struggled to find their normal offensive fluency.
However Miller continued with his scoring touch and Jamie Atkins put in another good display scoring midway through the period. Raby concluded the scoring as Hawks ran out comfortable 62-47 winners.
