Slinfold Golf Club’s Karen Ashcroft and Cathy Downey provided more shocks in the fifth round of the prestigious Daily Mail Foursomes.
The pair managed to oust Goodwood, one of the few Sussex clubs who were still left in the national competition.
Karen and Cathy’s victory was particularly outstanding given that their opponents had the benefit of home advantage, and for 17 holes there was rarely more than a shot between the two pairs.
Going up the 18th the match was all square, but the Slinfold pair help their nerve to sink the winning putt that put them into the sixth round and continued their amazing run of unbeaten foursomes in this competition since they paired up together in February last year.
This year they have also seen victories against Dorking, Mannings Heath, Hassocks and Gatton Manor where the match was reported in the sports pages of the Daily Mail.
Last year the pair were placed third after rain washed out their foursomes match when leading and with this victory they are now just two rounds away from their second successive finals appearance.
