Anna Sowerby and Andy Hunt teamed-up to win the Mannings Heath Hunt Cup last week.
Playing off handicaps of 12 and 26 respectively their 41-point better-ball stableford haul did just enough to hold off a strong challenge from the Paul Holmes/Tina Norris and Brian Easter/Susan Jaggard pairings, both of whom finished a point behind.
Shot of the day came from Gilly Ewers at the 96-yard tenth which dropped straight into the hole without bouncing for a four point eagle.
It crowned another successful week for the eleven handicapper whose nett 75 in the Ladies’ medal on Thursday earned her the runner-up spot behind Lesley-Anne Collins-Powell’s nett 74 off nineteen.
Saturday saw club captain Geoff Lodge and head professional Neil Darnell post eleven birdies or nett birdies for a formidable better-ball 45 points in their Cap-Pro challenge on a Waterfall course playing long after heavy rain.
Ed Roberts off five and Nigel Greenwood off ten were the only pair to beat them, their gross two-under-par 70 earning them 47 points and the day’s only prizes.
In the Seniors’ Texas Scramble on Monday the trio of Paul Williams, Peter Taylor and Jack Witherick made full use of their extra handicap shots to claim the Balasa Trophy with a blistering nett 57.6. Owen Hydes, Robin Brown, Robert Hails and John Coghlan posted nett 61.1 as runners-up, a shot clear of Eddie Searles, John Wills, Gordon Taylor and Geoff Earlam.
