COTTESMORE’S ladies Mail on Sunday knockout team marched into the fourth round of the prestigious national competition on Saturday.
In a tight match against Cuckfield, Cottesmore came out on top in the third round tie on home turf, with Margaret Swatman the convincing winner, as she romped to a 7&6 victory.
Cuckfield commented afterwards that they enjoyed the course though found it tricky around the greens. Cottesmore are now awaiting the venue and opposition for their fourth round tie to be decided.
Also on Saturday, Cottesmore’s Division 1 team played their first match of the season against Bognor and although they lost 5-2 it was a great effort against a very tough team on their own course against players with handicaps ranging from 11 down to three.
Captain Pat Johns stated that there were some great performances within the team and congratulated Penny Gaunt and Heather Skinner on their wins which count towards the end result.
An on Wednesday, Cottesmore’s Division 3 team, last year’s finalists, were keen to gain revenge against 2011 winners, Cowdray Park in their first match of 2012. On the day, one by one the team members came in to report to delighted Lady Captain, Shirley Vance, that they had secured a win for the side resulting in a resounding 7-0 victory.
