Cottesmore Golf Club’s junior boys beat off stiff opposition to reach the final of the prestigious Jack Langmead Trophy.
The team of Rob Groves (captain), Sam Passmore, Daniel Barnes, Sean Macleod, Russell Chrystie and Bradley Chrystie booked their place in the final at the Dyke Golf Club on August 30 when their cobined nett score of 351, beat Ifield GC - the host club - into second place in the regional qualifier.
Cottesmore also saw off the challenges of Mannings Heath, Haywards Heath and Copthorne.
Their 351 stroke total, was calculated from the best five scores from the six-strong team, and at an average of 70.1 on the par 70 course, Cottesmore were 20 strokes clear of Ifield.
Director of golf at Cottesmore, Calum Callan said: “Most of the team started in our Junior Academy and have progressed becoming very strong competitors. Their next match is the third round of the Covey cup. They beat the holders Worthing so we are keeping our fingers crossed for further success.”
