Horsham residents and visitors will have the chance to see Olympic athletes in action when the Grenada Olympic team hold an open training session this Wednesday.

The elite athletes will be training on the outdoor athletics track at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre from 3pm to 5pm and members of the public, as well as children accompanied by adults, are invited to come down and watch.

The Grenada team are currently deep in training at Broadbridge Heath with the London 2012 Games now less than two weeks away.

Among the athletes training on Wednesday will be sprinters Paul Williams, Janelle Redhead and Kanika Beckles. Decathlete Kurt Felix and 800m sprinter Neisha Bernard-Thomas are also training in Horsham.

The athletes from Grenada were officially welcomed to the Horsham District by the Chairman of Horsham District Council, Cllr Leonard Crosbie, at Park House in Horsham on Sunday July 15.

Cllr Roger Paterson, Horsham District Council’s Cabinet Member for the Local Economy, said: “This is a great opportunity for the Horsham District and I’m excited to see such wonderful athletes training in Horsham.

“I’m sure local residents will support the athletes and wish them luck in the London 2012 Olympic Games.”

The list of athletes attending the training session is still to be confirmed, subject to their training schedules.
