A 20 STRONG contingent of Horsham Joggers featured amongst the 36,672 runners in last Sunday’s London Marathon, which was run in good weather conditions over its traditional course.
The club was led home in brilliant fashion by Bryan Camfield, who took 16th place in the Male Vet45 age category in a personal best 2hr 43m 45s. Bryan’s training regime of lower mileage but greater intensity than in previous years led to his superb result.
Gareth Leighton followed him home strongly in a fine 2hr 50m 55s, while Janine Littler was the club’s leading lady, finishing in 3hr 56m 37s.
Seven girls from Mels Milers Running Club also took part. Personal bests were achieved by Sue Stacey (4hrs 2mins), Sue Endacott (4hrs 8mins) and Paula Reeves (4hrs 17mins). Two-time marathon runner Nikki Woolven ran a consistent race, finishing in 4hrs 16mins, followed by experience runners Stephanie Berry (5hrs 5mins) and Victoria Beattie (5hrs 20mins).
It was the turn of the McAteer family to cheer on Pippa McAteer, whose husband and son had completed last week’s Brighton Marathon. Pippa completed her race in 5hrs 47mins.
