Lucy vaults to weekend win double
POLE VAULTING starlet Lucy Stickland warmed up for the defence of her England School's Championship title next month in style with a double-winning weekend of competition.
The Horsham Blue Stars teenage ace took gold at the South East Schools Inter-county match at Southampton on Saturday, and made it a memorable two days by winning the Young Athletes League meet at Worthing the following day.
Not content with that, she also won Sunday's triple jump event in what was her first competition in the discipline.
Speaking about Saturday's win she said: "I cleared 3.35m and that was enough to win it. I went up to my pb of 3.50m and came close but just missed it.
"On Sunday I only did 3.30m but I have never experience such a strong head wind when planting the pole. I did the triple jump as well and I'd never done it before so I was just hoping to make the sand pit really."
