The Barrowmen are bidding for a top-eight finish in Division 1 to qualify for the FA Cup next season.

A run of three successive wins had lifted them up to ninth but they dropped to tenth after the defeat to Sidlesham. The visitors got the only goal of the game five minutes into the second half through Tom Bayley.

Skipper said: “It was a frustrating night. To be fair to Sidlesham they deserved it on the night. It was a tight game but we were a little flat.

“We huffed and puffed but we weren’t as bright as we have been over the last half dozen games.

“We had a couple of chances that we could have taken to level the game but only for outstanding saves from their goalkeeper it wasn’t to be.

“The workrate from the players was excellent. Their attitudes were spot on. Hats off to Sidlesham they were organised and strong.

“What is refreshing we have been giving youth a chance in the last few games and we will continue to do that on the run in.”

Lingfield moved above Steyning into ninth with a 5-2 win at home to Langney Wanderers. Town trail seventh-placed Little Common by two points, eighth-placed Langney, who have a game in hand, by one and are level on points with Lingfield.
