Sam Chapman admits: '˜We played badly and won'

Broadbridge Heath assistant manager Sam Chapman was critical of the Bears' display in making hard work of beating Hailsham 3-1.

He highlighted their defensive weaknesses which if it wasn’t for goalkeeper Michael Chester, might have resulted in Hailsham winning the game.

Heath were missing some key defensive players who would have been expected to prevent the visitors from having a big attacking threat.

Chapman said: “We played well in our last three games and lost and today we played badly and won!

“We didn’t play well today. We were never really had control of the game.

“We had lots of creative players but the ones we were missing were defensive to stop them playing.

“We were without Andy Waddingham (ankle injury), who is our rock in the middle of the park, Rob Godfrey (neck), Tiago Andrade (on loan to Evo Stik League club Godalming) and Tim Martin (injured).”

Chapman praised Hailsham but admitted Broadbridge Heath failed to close them down.

He said: “We gave them too much room to play for a lot of the game.

“Our keeper (Michael Chester) did what he is there for and had a great game. They (Hailsham) had chances and will feel hard done by.

“We should have scored more goals and they should have had several.”
