Horsham crowned Sussex champions

HORSHAM lifted the Sussex T20 Gray Nicholls Cup yesterday with a nailbiting win in the final against Stirlands.

Just four runs separated the two teams after a tense finish, which saw Horsham take the title for the first time since 2006.

Will Beer top scored for Horsham with 38 as they posted a below par target of 129 for Stirlands to chase.

But early wickets, with two each for Michael Thornely and Devon Endersby, saw Stirlands reduced to 58-7.

Ian Gooding, batting at number nine, had other ideas however and his 34 from 26 balls put Stirlands on the brink of victory before his run out in the final over tipped the balance back Horsham's way.

Earlier, Craig Gallagher hit a brutal half century as Horsham cruised past Eastbourne in the semi final at Preston Nomads.
