Horsham cricketers to face Australia

THREE Horsham cricketers have been named in the Sussex squad to take on Australia in the Ashes warm up at Hove, starting tomorrow.

Andrew Hodd, Chris Nash and Will Beer are named in the line up, alongside Horsham old boys Carl Hopkinson and Robin Martin-Jenkins.

More than 20,000 fans are expected to flock to the county ground for the highly anticipated match - an important warm up for Ricky Ponting's Australia ahead of the First Test in Cardiff in two weeks.

Ponting, Australia captain, said: "We believe that the conditions here are more like the Cardiff wicket than anywhere else in the country so it will be good to get used to the pace and the bounce. It will be a good opportunity for our bowlers to get used to English conditions and get used to the lines and lengths they have to bowl."

That match will be played as a 12-a-side contest, Friday's play is sold out, but there are still tickets available for the Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
