HORSHAM have been held to a drab 0-0 draw on the opening day of the Ryman League season by Aveley.
Ben Andrews and Paul Kennett had the best Hornets opportunities with headers, but it was a match short on genuine chances, against a side tipped to contend for a promotion place.

Aveley are on the back foot, but display that little bit more desire in the 50-50 tackles around the centre circle to keep Horsham at bay.
79 mins: Tait growing to his task now, he opens Aveley up but Sam Tucknott is unable to meet his cut back to the edge of the box with any power.
75 mins: Allan Tait gets his first sniff of goal. Twisting in turning inside the Aveley box before he rolls a shot into Matt Bennett's arms.

Half time: Horsham have had the better of the exchanges against Aveley, with Paul Kennett and Ben Andrews the biggest threat from crosses.Aveley looked lively to start with but have faded as the half went on.

The first ten were all about Aveley, but Horsham have had the last 20 minutes all to themselves.

34 mins: Horsham keeper Mark Zawadski clings on to a Ryan Edgar header, it was a pretty tame effort, but winger Abs Thomson got in a little easily.
25 mins: First shot from Horsham, as an inventive free kick finds Steve Sargent, whose shot is deflected behind for a corner.
The trio of Jay Lovett, Dean Wright and Allan Tait look to have struck up an instant undersatanding, some nice touches and interplay, just need an end product now.
More like it from Horsham, Steve Sargent's free kick leads to some pressure, and although nothing comes of it, they keep Aveley pinned in their half for a while.
