Friends come together to remember popular footballer Bradley

FRIENDS of the popular Horsham footballer Bradley Rooke are once again holding a charity football day in his memory – and this year's event is set to be bigger than ever.

Last summer Bradley's former Horsham Sparrows team mates and friends put on a tournament which attracted more than 100 people, but with 28 six-a-side teams signed up already this, the third such event, is set to be one of the biggest in the town's sporting calendar.

Football fanatic Bradley died tragically just days before his 21st birthday in 2006.

His friends – many of who had grown up playing football with the former Tanbridge School pupil – raised more than 1,000 for charity last year and look almost certain to break that this time around.

This year's event takes place at Horsham Rugby Club on Saturday August 1 and is an all day and night event with registration at 9.30am and kick off at 10.30am.

Bradley's parents will be there on the day along with around 200 footballers, and with a bouncy castle, barbeque, ice cream van and fun events like beat the goalie, families are welcome to come along.

Alex Bethell knew Bradley from the age of five and is organising the event along with Chris Minto and Russell Davey.

Alex said: "It's something we do in memory of him really just to keep Bradley's memory going and for his friends to come together to celebrate his life.

"He was quite a fun guy who had a lot of mates and it's everyone wanting to keep his name alive."
