Former Roffey colt's delight at becoming a double World Cup winner with England

FORMER Roffey colt Sarah Taylor has spoken of her delight at becoming a double World cup winner with England.

The 20-year-old wicketkeeper and opening batsman played a starring role in England's crushing defeat of New Zealand in the Twenty/20 World Cup final at Lourdes, adding to the 50-over World Cup winning medal she picked up in Australia just three months earlier.

"It still hasn't sunk in yet, it's all a bit surreal at the moment to be honest," said the Sussex player ahead of England training on Wednesday.

"It's all happened so quickly and now we are already focusing on the Aussies so we're not really going to have a chance to take it all in for a while."

Taylor – who began her already remarkable career as a ten-year-old at Roffey – made a crucial stumping to dismiss dangerous left hander Suzie Bates in the first over and took two catches, including a stunning diving take to her right as the Kiwis were skittled out for 85.

Opening the bat the classy right-hander then smashed 23 quick runs to put England on their way to a second World Cup triumph over New Zealand this year, and her fine individual displays throughout the competition earned her a place in the team of the tournament.

"The final was fantastic, there were a lot more people watching then we expected," she added.
