Forest back in the thick of it with Rottingdean win - County League round-up

FOREST produced arguably their best performance of the season to record an impressive 3-1 win at Rottingdean.

A Joe Holvey penalty and goals from Shaun Findlay and Jake Holmes left manager Dean Potter delighted. He said: “It was probably our best performance of the season, especially after the lads hadn’t played for three weeks.

“To go to Rottingdean and win 3-1 is an excellent result, I was pleased with everything from start to finish, we attacked well and defended when we had to. It was a real team performance.”

Midfielder Paul White tricked his way past three players before being ‘clattered’ in the box and Holvey netted from the spot.

Rottingdean levelled when a hopeful punt up field was miscontrolled by Michael Spence and the home forward ran on to beat Bruce Dumbrell.

Findlay though broke away and drilled in a fine goal from 20 yards to put Forest ahead a minute before half-time. And despite some Rottingdean pressure, substitute Andy Lampard rounded the keeper and squared for Holmes to make the game safe late on.

“On the back of the 3-1 win at Barnham it’s another great away win which puts us back in the mix,” Potter said. “Results went our way as well so it was a good weekend but we’re not getting carried away.”

Forest are fifth in Division 3, eight points off leaders Pease Pottage Village with two games in hand.

Elsewhere across the County League, in Division 1 Horsham YMCA’s problems continued with a 5-1 defeat at East Grinstead Town.

Loxwood secured a 4-1 win at home to Seaford Town in Division 2, Ben Bissett with a hat-trick, while Steyning won 1-0 at Littlehampton and Storrington were held to a 0-0 draw by visiting Hailsham.

In Division 3 Broadbridge Heath had a great result in beating promotion hopefuls Newhaven - a result which does Forest’s promotion chances some good, while TD Shipley lost 1-0 at Saltdean.
