Horsham YMCA hope to gain a confidence boost in tomorrow’s John O’Hara League Cup tie against Loxwood.

Peter Buckland’s YM were beaten 3-1 at Lingfield in Division 1 of the Sussex County League on Saturday. And after what was their third straight League loss, the manayger is hoping for some cup comfort against Division 2 Loxwood.

Buckland said: “I get the hump when we’ve lost and not played well, but other than the quarter of an hour bad start, we played very well indeed.

“And with the players I’ve got coming back in, I am absolutely convinced that we can get a good result at Loxwood, and that will then hopefully give them a confidence boost.”

Aaron Smith made a positive debut against Lingfield, and will certainly be pushing for a starting place at Loxwood.

Mike Gardner and Lee Smith should return for the trip, whilst former YM full-back of three years ago, Adam O’Carroll, re-signed for the club this week after returning back to Horsham from University.

After the loss to Lingfield, Buckland was not too downbeat. Martin Smith and Dean Cox both scored for YM, while Cox and Russell Hartt both struck the woodwork.

“We were so worth a point today, it was just that Lady Luck didn’t shine on us again,” he said. “I’m not downbeat at all, because we could have certainly got a point at least. It was the best half an hour we’ve played all season.

“It was a sluggish start again. But we got back into it before half time.”
