Horsham manager Simon Colbran praised the way his players reacted following a disastrous first half when they recovered from being 3-0 down after just 21 minutes before narrowly losing 4-3 against fourth-placed Hythe on Wednesday night.
He asked them to win the second half which they did and also alsked them to react faster and close their opponents down when in attacking positions.
Colbran said: “It definately wasn’t good enough in the first half. We let them know it and we asked them to go and win the second half for us, and they’ve done that. We won the second half 3-1 which was what we asked for. We said: ‘We’ve got to stop them playing and must react a lot quicker and sharper.
“If we had gone on another 5-10 minutes they might have ended up 4-4 which would have been fantastic.”
Colbran also praised 17-year-old supersub Harry Smith for scoring a brilliant goal after coming on for Tony Nwachukwu.
He said: “Harry is a massive talent. He’s got a big future. He’s been doing well for the youth team recently so we thought it would be an opportunity to give him some minutes on the pitch and he certainly paid us back with that. He’s got a lovely left foot on him and he gave a quality finish and I’m sure he’ll score a lot more goals for Horsham.”
