Steyning Town ran Division One Pagham close in the First Qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

Phil Williams struck from close range to put Town in front before Joe Briggs levelled. Dave Harris restored the lead from range, but when James Temple’s effort proved to hot for Matt neocleous to handle, Pagham were level.

Temple then struck again after the break to seal Pagham’s progress.

Manager Richard Whittington said: “The players were fantastic and I can’t fault their performance. I was very proud of them and if we carry on playing like that then we will win a lot more games than we lose this season. Pagham are a top six Division One side and we more than matched them. They were taking the ball into the corner flag late on which showed how much pressure we were piling on in the closing stages. It was a great game and I just hope we can show the same commitment, work-rate and attitude in the next game.”
