Billingshurst have signed former Horsham youth product Lee Saxby.

The defender impressed in the second half of Hurst’s quickly arranged friendly at Three Bridges last week.

Betts said: “He’s not played for four years, that was the first time he’s kicked a ball but you could still see the quality.”

Saxby helped Hurst recover from 4-0 down at half-time to finish with a respectable 4-1 defeat, Nick Tilley with the visitors’ goal in the second half.

The rain and now snow has meant Hurst haven’t played a competitive game since December 15, and the nine league games they’ve played is the lowest in Division 3. Still Betts said: “It’s been dreadful, but there’s no point worrying about losing momentum because everyone’s in the same boat.”

Hurst are fourth in the table with games in hand and are desperate for Saturday’s cup game at home to Haywards Heath to go ahead.
