A bright start could not pave the way for Horsham’s first points of 2013 as they went down 2-1 at Sittingbourne and ended the game with only nine men.
Tony Nwachukwu’s goal after two minutes offered hope of a repeat of the 4-3 win over The Brickies earlier in the season and a third away victory on spin.
The Hornets built on their strong start but the first signs that it wasn’t to be their day came when skipper Gary Charman left the field injured midway through the first half.
And Nwachukwu was then shown a straight red card when he reacted angrily to Nick Treadwell’s challenge leaving the visitors down to ten men after 33 minutes.
Sittingbourne drew level two minutes before half time when Connor Coyne headed in a corner, and shortly after the break Horsham had a second man sent off when Billy Medlock earned a second yellow card for a rash challenge from behind.
Just before the hour mark home skipper Nick Davis headed Sittingbourne ahead, and though nine-man Horsham pushed for an equaliser they suffered their second defeat of 2013.
The defeat sees Horsham drop to 15th in the table and Colbran will need to pick his side up for Tuesday’s visit of high-flying Maidstone.
