HORSHAM YMCA’S mathmatical relegation from the Ryman League was confirmed on Saturday after a 1-0 loss to Faversham.
Seventeen points adrift of safety and with only four games of the current campaign remaining, it has now become mathematically impossible for John Cumberbatch’s men to survive the drop. And the YM boss admits that he’d already begun giving up hope of a miraculous escape even before Saturday’s frustrating defeat.
He said: “As far as I am concerned it was dead and buried three or four weeks ago. Our performances have been much better but it’s only the results that count. The last three games we’ve played, we’ve put a lot of pressure on the opposition, but we just haven’t got people who can put the ball in the back of the net.”
Justin Ascheri grabbed the winner shortly after half time, and to compound YM’s misery, Zak Henry was dismissed.
