Three goals inside the opening ten minutes saw Horsham YMCA make it four games unbeaten in County League Division 1 as they mauled Pagham 5-3 on Saturday.
Skipper Ashley Dugdale bagged his third goal in four games to open the scoring three minutes in, before Liam Hunter doubled the hosts’ advantage with a curled free kick two minutes later.
Martin Smith then won and converted a penalty to extend YM’s advantage, before Scott Wason notched his first goal for the club, sweeping the ball in at the far post to make it 4-0 midway through the first half.
Pagham’s Howard Neighbour then reduced the deficit with a penalty of his own, after he was brought down by YM defender Russell Hartt, only for the home side to restore their four goal advantage two minutes later, Elliott Romain firing into the roof of the net for his second goal in as many starts.
YM were pegged back in the second half though, as Pagham forward Ashley Harper first capitalised on some dire defending to make it 5-2, before YM’s Matt Crane was robbed in his own half and Harper this time turned provider, squaring for Neighbour to tap home his second of the afternoon from close range in stoppage time.
“I asked the lads for twelve points out of the next four games starting at Sidley,” YM boss peter Buckland said. “That’s now nine points out of nine, and yet again, I’m going to allow myself to be confident in saying we can achieve three points on Tuesday night at Chichester.”
