HORSHAM YMCA manager Mark Hawthorne remains confident his side can escape a County League Division 1 relegation battle.
Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Worthing United saw YM slip into the bottom four, having won just one point since Hawthorne took over as boss, and with six successive league defeats.
They are now just a point ahead of Ringmer, managed by former boss Sammy Donnelly.
Hawthorne said: “We’ll probably have to win the best part of our last five fixtures, and see what other teams do at the same time, but of course we can [stay up].
“It’s been difficult at times, but I wouldn’t say that we were favourites to go down. We just need points on the board, and in our next two fixtures against Selsey away, who I don’t think have much to play for, and at Chichester, who are rock bottom, hopefully we can get something.”
