HORSHAM YMCA manager Sammy Donnelly praised his side for not ‘throwing in the towel’ during their 2-0 defeat to Rye United on Saturday.

YM’s return to County League got off to a bad start as Allan McMinigal and former Hastings striker Sam Adams scored in the first half to secure the points for visitors Rye United. But Donnelly saw plenty of positives from his new look side.

“Rye were physically very strong and the goals we conceded were very poor,” he said. “The first one they caught us cold after an injury.

“We got on top for 20-25 minutes, played the ball around, put them under pressure and were asking questions of their defence.

“We then conceded a killer goal just before half-time. But I must commend the lads who didn’t throw the towel in and kept going until the end.”
