Cowfold kick-started their Premier Division season with an emphatic 4-0 win at Watersfield.

An energetic start saw Fold apply some intense pressure as Nigel Smith, Dan Dalton and Tom Easton looked dangerous. They went in front on 15 minutes when James Wrigley picked out Smith, who scored with an exquisite chip.

Craig Deane and Simon Pike went close to adding to the lead, before Wrigley created the second goal. He darted past two challenges and released Dalton to fire home from just inside the box.

Dave Whiting’s individual effort was brought to a halt on the edge of the box, but it was clear Fold would not ease off after the break. They were made to wait to go 3-0 up though, and Wrigley smashed his shot into the top-corner to kill the game off, before he capped a superb all round performance scoring from six yards after Greg Brabon’s cut-back.

Division 1

Southwater and Cowfold Reserves shared the spoils in this entertaining local derby draw.

In a goalless first half, Carl Petros went closest to scoring when he hit the bar, but Southwater had to be patient before taking the lead after the break. Ali Green and Joe Bagwell went close before Petros slid home the opener at the end of a slick team move.

Minutes later it could have been two when Petros went close at the far post but Cowfold hit back to grab an equaliser through Phil Marshall.

Surrey Junior Cup

Alfold made emphatic progress with a convincing 6-0 defeat of Coulsdon Town Reserves.

Karl Bearryman set Alfold on their way with a cool finish after Adam Saunders’ pass opened-up the Couldson defence. And the roles were reversed as Fold went 2-0 up before the break - Bearryman returning the compliment for Saunders, who turned on the afterburners to race clear of the Coulsdon defence and slot his shot home via the post.

A sharper display in the second half saw Fold hit four, as Sean Lee’s cross was nodded home at the second attempt by Robbie Brininger, Barryman completed his brace from Sean Lee’s through ball, Jamie Hopkins rounded the keeper to net, before Brininger added his second from an Andy Sullivan corner.
