Horsham YMCA manager Peter Buckland said his team were beaten by a ‘very average’ Pagham in Saurday’s 4-2 loss.
James Ford and Scott Murfin struck to put the Lions 2-0 up inside seven minutes, and although Peter Tarrant and Elliott Romain struck back, Scott Murfin scored a second, and Ryan Cox wrapped-up the scoring.
Buckland said: “Pagham are a very average side really, and fully stacked we’d beat them hands down. At 2-1 down, we hit the bar, we hit the post and their goalkeeper made a couple of magnificent saves. It was a bizarre situation because at half time, the best team were 3-1 down. We just didn’t have the rub of the green.”
After a ten game unbeaten run, Saturday’s loss was YM’s second on the bounce following last week’s loss at leaders East Preston.
We completely dominated the second half and I was one hundred percent convinced that we were going to get a draw out of it, but it just wasn’t to be.
“It was the exact sort of game where you needed three, on their game substitutes to be able to come on and change the game, but we just didn’t have a lot of options.
“However, I said to the lads that they shouldn’t go home disappointed, because I wasn’t. We could have easily, with a bit of luck, scored five goals today. Sometimes you just don’t get the rub of the green.
“I’m not just trying to keep everyone upbeat, we really played well and we were well worth a point.”
