Two new signings and the core of last-season’s squad putting pen to paper in the past week sees an exciting new Horsham squad starting to take shape.

Striker Max Miller has joined the Hornets from Burgess Hill, while versatile centre-back Tom Gilbert has re-joined the club after spells at Hastings and Eastbourne Town.

The majority of Gary Charman’s squad have also agreed to stay at Gorings Mead with Lewis Hamilton, Jamie Cade, Ross Morley, Tony Nwachukwu and Billy Joe King all committing much to the player-manager’s delight.

The Hornets boss admitted he has kept his cards close to his chest over signings until all the necessary paper work was completed, but has been hugely satisfied with his pre-season activity.

On his new signings he said: “Max is a goalscorer, I think he got nine goals last year at Burgess Hill. As they had four or five strikers there he got rotated there, but he won’t be getting rotated in my squad.

“He came down to training for the first time on Monday and looked really sharp, he and Cadey will be fantastic and compliment each other very well.

“Max is hardworking, quick, good in the air and knows where the goal is and I am very pleased to have him.

“Tom is a young centre-half and getting better and better. He was with us a couple of years ago and was in and out of the side, but he’s getting older and every year getting better.”

One blotch on pre-season preparations is the loss of goalkeeper Mark Zawadski who has left the club owing to work commitments, but the club are already in talks with two new goalkeepers.
