HORSHAM YMCA look destined for the drop, but it will not be without a fight on the evidence of last night’s stunning fight-back at Eastbourne Town.
Three times the Division One’s bottom side rallied from behind to earn a fabulous 4-4 draw on Wednesday night to lift the gloom of four straight defeats.
The hosts took an early lead when Tim Rivers netted in the third minute but John Cumberbatch’s YM levelled with a Hugh Sammuels goal on 20 minutes.
That’s the way it stayed until after half-time when a quick-fire brace from Brad Manton gave Eastbourne a 3-1 lead but they were only ahead for nine minutes as goals from Michael Abnett and Alim Sesay brought YM back level at 3-3.
The drama was far from over as Steve Elliott put Eastbourne back in front for the third time on 73 minutes, and it looked to be enough for a home win until, with two minutes of normal time remaining Gavin Gordon popped up to grab YM a dramatic point.
YM are still nine points adrift of second-bottom Corinthian Casuals but the performance raises hope of a rousing finish to a tough campaign.
