Roffey FC manager Dan Redman saluted his team’s progress after Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Barnham.
Although beaten by the Sussex County League Division 3 table-toppers, Roffey gave a good account of themselves with a well taken goal from Chris Dumbrill and a magnificent Sam Matthews free kick.
Roffey, who finished bottom last season, are steadily improving says their manager.
Redman said: “I don’t think we did enough to win the game, but we had enough chances to stay in it, and we are competing much better than we did last season.
“We want to play from the back, on the floor and that will take time to bed in. We have a good dressing room, and while anyoe can benefit from bringing players in we are in no rush to do that. “It’s more positive than last year and we are competing in every game.”
