ROFFEY Football Club are celebrating this week after all but sealing their promotion to the Sussex County Football League for the first time.
A League delegation carried out an inspection of their Chennels Brook ground on Saturday, and will recommend to the SCFL annual general meeting later this month that Roffey are accepted.
For chairman Roger Berwick it is the realisation of a dream stretching back more than 40 years. And he is relishing the prospect of Division 3 derby battles against Broadbridge Heath and near neighbours Forest.
He said: “It’s something we have wanted at least ever since I have been here.
“It is very good for the club, we have always been in the shadow of Forest. It’s great for Horsham, if you look at the County League there is no other town around with this many teams.
“I hope we will adjust well and hope we will do well. With all the hard work we have put in over the last few years, if we can stay in the league this year, hopefully we can then build on it.”
